Intel ICH9R USB Controller and Ethernet will not start
I am not too sure if you can help me as i seem to be having a very strange problem. I restarted my computer yesterday for the first time in a long time and when it came back up the USB controllers on the ICH9R chipset stopped working and so did the ethernet. In device manager you see a yellow ! mark next to these devices. If i remove these devices and scan for new they will redetect and work correctly, however after a reboot these devices will turn yellow again or during usage after x time the system will freeze and restart. I have tried a scan disk, a sfc scannow, removing the usb and installing windows generic, uninstalling all chipset and ethernet drivers etc. I have also tried to update the intel ICH9 drivers but the revision and the date never change on the drivers in device manager. Bios and all other drivers are up to date System restore is turned off because in the past has caused more problems than its worth. I am running x64 windows 7 enterprise. It sounds like it could be a compatibility issue but i am using microsoft signed drivers which have been working since the release of windows 7 so i dont think it could have been that, no hardware has been upgraded either. Windows has performed a startup repair and this has not fixed it either, no virus or malware detected at all. Its not a hardware fault as i do not get issues in other OS

Fixed it, i used acronis to back it up and then reimage it back using universal restore with newer drivers and it works fine.

You should try to reset the plug and play service to defaults. You need to use system prep or sysprep. The system might ask you for the serial key again. so make sure you haev the key or extract it with a windows serial key extractor. Sysprep is found on the windows DVD under support tools, if not look it up online and try to download the tools. X:\Support\Tools\deploy.cab that is where you can find these tools on the Windows XP cd. extract the files somewhere open cmd in that location and run: sysprep -pnp. or run sysprep /? to find all available commands. OOOOORRRR You might have to reinstall at this point, or recover your computer from the recovery partition, or the DVDs. But make sure you burn your recovery DVDs first.
