Hiya,Hoping someone might be able to help with a driver installation issue / Code 10.Running an HP 8530p on Windows 7 Enterprise x64 with an Intel 5300 AGN - driver version (currently installed) is 12.4.3.9. I've tried several other versions, all the way down to 12.4.0.21 (from Intel) and 8.20 from HP (the only previous version listed). Reboots, driver uninstalls, swapping out the unit, nothing works. It just code 10s and won't get going. I've been trawling for answers for weeks since I got this machine and can't seem to get it to work.We got several of these laptops so I've been able to make some significant comparisons (including as mentioned swapping out the wifi module).There are one or two main differences between the Win7 8530p I installed (Unit A) and the identical unit a colleague installed (Unit B):-Unit A has the UEFI BIOS (extension?) installed; Unit B has the standard non-UEFI BIOSUnit B has an older version of the WiFi driver installed, something like 12.4.1.(3?) with the driver provider listed as Microsoft, as opposed to Intel. My colleague says as far as he remembers this driver installed automatically after he installed the OS - either out of the box or from WinUpdate.Unit A on the other hand had pretty much all of its (supposedly latest) drivers installed before it even hit the 'net.Any help is hugely appreciated.

May I ask if there are any driver startup logs / diagnostics I may be able to check to provide more info or shed more light?Also to clarify, Unit B above's WiFi works fine, and it's also running W7Entx64.

Hi, Regarding the error Code 10, I would like to share the following with you: Code 10: The device cannot start Meanwhile, please try the following when you have a wired Internet connection: 1. Completely remove the driver for Intel 5300 AGN which has been installed on the Unit A. 2. Reboot the computer. 3. Run Windows Update to check the driver for Intel 5300 AGN. As I know there may be a switch to enable or disable the Wireless Network Card, please also if it is enabled with the switch. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT

Hi Nicholas, I have already taken the steps you propose and have checked the 'delete the software for this driver' while doing so. I have tried this again today (removing all software required me to uninstall the device twice and reboot twice) and Windows Update does not find a driver, and attempting to update through device manager returns 'Windows was unable to install your Network Controller / Windows could not find driver software for your device. / If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software.' This is no help since I've tried both the HP and Intel drivers.Two questions:-- Is there a Windows 7 certified driver for the 5300 AGN, and if not am I stuck waiting for Intel to provide one? And,- Is an x64 certified Microsoft provided driver (even for Vista)available and how dow I get my hands on it? (Have tried the download centre for drivers but it's changed now - remember the time you could browse Win Update for drivers? Something like that would be great). I think the next step I'll take is to post this to both Intel and HP and add the links to this thread.T.

However, I would like to let you know that actually device driver is a bridge between the operating system and the hardware device. To make a device work properly on an operating system a proper driver is necessary. Also, the device drivers are generally designed and tested by the hardware manufacturers. In other words, it is hardware manufacturers responsibility to design, develop, test, and support their device drivers. For example, as we know, when a new operating system is released, many hardware manufacturers will also publish their upgraded device drivers via their websites. Hmm, I signed up so I can post this: I've seen this exact "Code 10" behavior on my 8530w, when trying to UEFI-boot Windows Vista or Windows 7. Specifically, it says "Unable to allocate resources necessary for operation" -- probably something about the EFI memory map. Interestingly enough, wireless works just fine under UEFI-booted Linux... but then the kernel has issues finding the frame buffer and the initramfs. I assume this means the UEFI implementation on the EliteBook laptops is somehow incorrect. Using the CSM (compatibility system module) to boot gives working wifi. I'd like to add my experience - I too receive code 10 for Intel WiFi 5100 AGN when booting Windows 7 RTM in UEFI mode... And there is now a driver available via MSFT Update for this WLAN card.. I also find it interesting that WiFi works fine under Linux when booted from UEFI.. Any suggestions? Has anyone got it working properly? I've put in an email to HP support.. but the UEFI mode 'is for development only' and 'is currently NOT fully supported by HP' (according to the disclaimer popup when enabling UEFI boot mode in the system config (BIOS). We'll see what they say..
