It certainly sounds like your computer is heavily infected and doing a clean install would be the best solution. If you are trying to do a clean install from within Windows, that's why you're getting errors. It would be like trying to saw off a tree limb whilst sitting on it. You have to boot with the XP CD and do the installation that way.http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html -Clean Install How-To http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Reinstalling_Windows -What you will need on-hand MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

If you do itcorrectly, XP won't even be a player in the game. You're trying to do it from within Windows, and that's what's wrong. You need to boot from the XP CD (not the hard drive) and follow theprompts for a clean installationIf you can't boot from the CD, you will have to first change the bootorder so that the CD is the first device. You do that in the BIOSsetup program. How to get into your BIOS setup program depends, not onWindows, but on what motherboard/BIOS you have. As a matter of fact, you have to access the BIOS before Windows even starts to boot. Onecommon way is to press the Del key when you first power on, but that'snot necessarily right for your computer. Watch the screen carefullywhen you first boot; there's often a message there telling you what todo. If not, check your system documentation or check with your vendor. Also look here: http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htmOr just try the Del key. There's a good chance that's correct for you.Ken Blake
