If you install XP, you may mess up the Win7 bootloader - but you can fix that with a bootable copy of the disk to run Startup Repair. You may not be able to see/use the Windows XP installation after that, but you can add it to the Win7 boot loader using the BCD editor.- John

How about installing XP in a virtual machine...? Might simplify things considerably.

As you said...Windows 7 is your main OS.1. Boot from Windows XP CD or DVD and perform clean installation in D drive. (Choose your own)2. Now we are getting to boot in Windows XP, so now boot with Windows 7 DVD and choose Regional Settings and click on Next.3. Now choose Repair your Computer, it automatically detect Windows Vistas partition and repair all kind of problem that cause unable to boot in Vista by clicking on Repair button OR then choose Startup Repair option.4. Restart your computer to boot in Windows Vista and run CMD as Administrator and execute the following commands one by one to add boot manager entries of Windows XP in boot menu. bcdedit /create {ntldr} /d "Earlier version of Windows"bcdedit /set {ntldr} device bootbcdedit /set {ntldr} path ntldrbcdedit /displayorder {ntldr} /addlast Now reboot your computer and you should have the option to boot to either Earlier version of Windows or Windows Vista.- Ramesh Kumar

Tried to install XP to second partition today. No luck. After copying XP setup files pc must to restart. So after that nothing was happening, i saw just a black screen with no boot options or whatever. So i've inserted Win7 DVD and made a "startup repair". Win7 works fine again.Ramesh - " it automatically detect Windows Vistas partition..." ?! What about all these instructions about Vista? I'm trying to install XP...

Hey Ramesh, I just wanted to say thanks; you walked me through bcdedit great. I had tried EasyBCD but it wouldn't run for whatever reason. I had lost my Windows 7 bootloader after having to restore my Windows XP install from a disk image and then when I got the Windows 7 bootloader back Windows 7 was all that loaded...well, you got me back on track for the next month-plus, till I get my Windows 7 final disk and don't have to dual-boot any more.
