Installing Windows 7 on VPC 7 running XP SP3 runs very slow
I have installed the Windows 7 RC on a virtual machine, VPC 7 is running on XP SP3 with the virtual disk on a seperate drive. The installation went well but Windows & RC runs extremely slow. I am unable to install hardware virtulization. Under settings it says Hardware virtualization is not available (Note: Hardware - assisted virtualization is not available on this computer). I have tried to install addtions but it does not appear to work. This is a Dell 4550 computer with the lateset bios upgrade.

HiThe behavior that you are describing is expected, especially if you are running the 32-Bit versions of XP and Windows 7.You have a limited amount of RAM that can be installed on XP 32-Bit and whatever amount you have allocated to the Windows 7 virtual machine is deducted from the amount available to XP.A quick test to see if the VM Additions are installed is to reduce the size of the VM window and try to drag a file from the VM client Desktop to the host XP Desktop. If the move succeeds, then the additions are installed. The hardware assisted virtualization is a function of the CPU chip. If it does not support this function, the only way to fix it is to replace the CPU with one that supports this function. If hardware virtualization is not available you are limited to using the default virtual hardware that comes with VPC 2007.Here are some links that may help. How to install Virtual Machine Additions on a virtual machine Microsoft Virtual Pc 2007 Sp1 Description of the hotfix rollup package for Virtual PC 2007 Service ...
