Installing Lync 2013 with High availability

Hi all,

we are in plan of installing Lync high availability With the following setup:

3 Frontend servers
3 Backend servers
2 Mediation servers
2 Edge servers

We will be using centralized sip trunk provider that can provide us phone for multiple countries.

My question is roles/features that i need to install on the Frontend, mediation and Edge servers.

During setup, which of these should i use for those servers?

HI,

other than Monitoring/archiving and CAC you can select the Rest. In the next screen don't select collocate Mediation Server as you are dedicating the mediation server Role.

Check this

Agree with Raju,

Call Admission Control is nice if you have multiple sites with gateways or you need to control the bandwidth allowed between them.

Monitoring is a must I feel, that's your call detail records.

What you have checked is good I'd think as long as you don't have multiple sites as mentioned above and aren't archiving.

If the question is around server prerequisites and what to install, check out Pat Richard's PowerShell script that makes it a breeze: http://www.ehloworld.com/1697

Hi all and thanks for your input.

I have now defined FEpool,Medpool and Edgepool but not all servers are installed yet (only 1st and 2nd FE and 3 Backend servers are up and running).

Seems like that both of them the FrontEnd service wont start, can this be caused by not having Mediation and Edge up and runnig?

Event log are complaining about not able to contact Backend servers, but all services are running there. If i start SQL management i see multiple databases in status restoring:

In the event log i see this error:

The configuration information of the performance library "perf-MSSQL$RTC-sqlctr11.2.5058.0.dll" for the "MSSQL$RTC" service does not match the trusted performance library information stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted

Event ID 2003.

Could this be the cause for FrontEnd services not to start?

thanks!

That's pretty much a separate question, I would open a new thread, but if you defined three front end servers in your topology, you'll want all three built for quorum so you can get them started. The SQL could be another issue, that looks like your mirror, what does your primary show?

HI Anthony and thanks for reply.

In the topology the above picture is set as primary,so strange it is showing as mirror.

On the 2nd Backend in look like this

I will be setting up the 3rd FE server and see how it ends. Thanks!

Sorry, it is the primary but it's hosting the copy. You can see principal on the other showing this. No biggie there.

Hi Off2work,

Check the event log on FE servers, it should show you why the FE service does not start.

Also have a look the following article, you can follow it to resolve the SQL issue.
