Installing Applications from Network Server
I have an application I need to install from a server. When I try to use the Install programs from the network, W7 will not allow me to search for the setup.exe.I can start the install by using the explore.I have found out that when doing install of apps from network if you are not Admin on nework will not execute setup.exe.If you are just a user doing install of app you will be asked where the setup.exe is on network. When searching W7 will not list logical network share drive, you have to connect using \\server name\share\folder\setup.exe.How can you get W7 to reconize logical drives using Install programs option?

This is a known behavior specially for certain programs. Because you are not installing the program with an administrative token if the domain account is not domain administrator, the installation process will not be able to query the installation file information on the shared folder. This issue will occur on most programs installations if they need to be installed with a high privilege. Some UAC compatible programs do not have this issue although they need high privileges either. If you disable UAC the issue does not occur. However, since disabling UAC is not recommend, we suggest that you copy the file on local hard drive and install it. If you would like to deploy the program from a server. You may try Group Policy Software Installation. How to use Group Policy to remotely install software in Windows Server 2003Arthur Xie - MSFT
