Installed on a P4!
Well, I work for the government, and we decided to run some of our applications on Windows 7. We had an old Pentium 4, 1GB of memory, and tried Windows 7. The installation was very smooth, and it recognized all of our drivers, except display (on board intel). We went to the Intel site, and downloaded the vista drivers, and tried the vista drivers, and with a few bios tweaks, it runs great! For those of you who wanted to know about performance:Under office processing load: XP = 17% CPU usageUnder office processing load: Vista = 49% CPU usageUnder office processing load: W7 = 19 % CPU usageIdle: XP = 3% CPU usageIdle: Vista = 11% CPU usageIdle: W7 = 4% CPU usage(Note: we're not a benchmarking company, these were just the averages of what we saw)This is our testing rig, nothing fancy. We use some software, that runs on our network, like Trend Enterpriser (no problems installing) and many simple networking functions. It joined the work groups fine, and pulled files just like any XP machine. The experience is defiantly better for the W7 versus the Vista. Vista seemed to over-complicate things. W7 is just right.A lot of reviews made posts that W7 should be Vista SP2, however, I believe Vista is perfect for Home users, entering the computer world, where vista takes a lot of steps to protect your investments. W7 is a great business OS.Thanks microsoft for a great product!

Sorry for double posting, I do have one question though:We think we will be buying a copy of Windows 7. Will there be an update from the Beta to release for beta testers, to allow us to use our purchased keys in Windows 7, or will we have to reinstall Windows?Any help is appreciated :)

Hi DenimDonnie Thanks for the feedback. The answer to your question is,nobody knowsyet.Usually, beta code is present in every build of a product and it is not completely removed until the product is released to manufacturing (RTM). This would mean that a new install or upgrade, over a previously released version of Windows, would need to be performed with the final product build.Hope this helps. Ronnie Vernon MVP

This is Windows Beta 1, there may be more Betas, then Release Clients, before the Retail Version, so i suspect that there will be a need to buy and do a fresh install when Win 7 is actually released.
