Installed a second hard drive, now wired internet connection won't work
My desktop internet was working fine yesterday. Last night I installed a new (second) hard drive without any trouble. I plugged my machine back in and received a "no internet connection" message. I have tried (what I think is) everything: unplugged my modem and router and plugged it back in as if it was the first time with the 60 second pauses and whatnot; tested the connection with my cable modem service provider; unplugged and checked cable connections; did ipconfig/flushdns ... I'm really not sure where to go from here. My wireless configuration works fine, as I am able to connect both wirelessly and wired to the router on my laptop. I cannot connect via the modem or router to my desktop PC. Any suggestions? I don't think it could be related to my hard drive install (a second hard drive for storage, no OS on it), but maybe it is? Windows 7 running 64-bit, Motorola Surfboard modem (brand new), Medialink router (also brand new), custom built machine. Thanks for your input!

Yes, everything is plugged in. I can't connect to the internet to email it to myself, so I don't know how to get the results to a computer with internet. I guess I could try to figure out some way to put it on my phone.

Hi, Would you please let us know what the result of ipconfig /all is? Meanwhile, please check the following: Does the light blinks on back of the computer? Check if the cable works fine on another computer or try another cable. Take a look at Device Manager and see if there are any errors or notifications.Update or reinstall the NIC driver. Hope this helps. Thanks.Tracy Cai TechNet Community Support

Despite all of these ideas, it turned out to be a software issue. I uninstalled my virus scanner and it started working instantly. I'm not entirely sure how unplugging a cable, installing a second drive for storage only, and plugging the cable in caused the virus scanner to stop functioning and firewall everything, but it did. Problem solved. Thanks for your input. Maybe this can help somebody else someday.
