Installation was successful, but hangs after login
Hi all,I had my Windows7 build7000 installed on a Dell Inspiron 630m with 1GB ram. It installed successfully and I managed to loginfor a few days (since Friday). And today, it just dies on me. It boots up well, shows a login screen. Login was successful, shows my desktop then hangs.Anyidea??

Hi,Can you explain in a little more detail how the system hangs? For example, can you move the mouse cursor? Assuming it isn't a hard hang, you might be able to press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up Task Manager. Then you can look at the list of processes to see if anything is using a lot of CPU or memory resources. You might also tap the caps lock key to see if the light on your keyboard is responding. Can you test it out and reply? Thanks,Richard

Hi, I have few questions:- Did windows perform any updates during the time windows 7 was running?- have you install any new software since then?- Have you done clean install, or you have upgraded your old os ( in this case: what was the old os)?- Have you tried to run your system in safe mode? did it hang in safe mode?Thank you for using Windows,JT

I'd just like to bump this post, saying I have the same problem, a year onwards. Desktop freezes RIGHT after login, and system restore was able to restore it to the 31st December, 09. And then the day after the restore, the problem has occurred again. I'd REALLY like an idea as to how to fix this problem, please. :)

Hi Tezlin,Try to identify the hotfix or patch that caused the problem and not install it.BR,Bernard

orangedeuce, thanks for your reply. :) The latest update I've seen in my Update log is a Security Patch for Capicom, and any earlier ones than that are on the 14th of January, 2010. I've read one or two stories on the net about people suggesting it could be a driver problem. Virus scans turned up nothing, and I'm currently stuck in Safe Mode until I fix this problem. *update* Attempting to uninstall the Capicom update comes up with "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your personnel for assistance." Could this be in relation to being in Safe Mode, or part of the problem? Cheers, Tez.

Hi Tez,I am not too sure what happened in your case. You might want to try upgrade Capicom separately or reinstall Capicom totally.Cheers. :)

Well I just fixed it *hopefully*. I'd had a -second- nagging feeling that it might've been because I'd uninstalled Nortons that night in return for a different AV. I'd uninstalled it from the Control Panel, so I downloaded the Nortons Removal Tool and ran that, which has cleared up my problem. Thanks for your help mate.
