Installation Problem with 1 ssd and 1 hdd

Hello everybody.

I have an issue when I install Windows 8.1 on the ssd.

I have 1 SSD and 1 HDD.

The HDD is "sda" (1st drive) and SSD "sdb" (2nd drive).

I deleted all partitions on both SSD and HDD and then I selected the SSD in order for Windows to be Installed on it.

The prompt with "windows might make another partition for system" (the system reserved space) appeared and pressed ok to continue installation.

When I finished installation I found that the Windows Installation is on the SSD (sdb) as selected and the system reserved was placed on HDD (sda).

I then tried to format the HDD and the system would tell me there is no bootable hdd/ssd in my PC.

I retried the process switching the sata ports making the SSD my first.

I then noticed at the menu with the drives that only when I tried to make a partition out of the HDD the message with "windows will reserve another partition for system" would appear.

Finally I took the sata cable out from the HDD during instalation in order to fix this problem.

The problem here is that the system reserved space and windows installation should be on the same drive because if the drive with the system reserved partition would be formated or just died then I needed a new Windows Installation as the system would not see the SSD with Windows on it, it would just tell me that there is no bootable media.

So is there any workaround?

Thanks,

Popescu Valentin

Well you could simply disconnect the HDD do the install and once done reconnect it.

This would assure windows to make the partition on the SSD.

You could also don't make that partition and only have it run on a single partition. Unless you plan on using bitlocker

Hi ValiRyu,

Thank you for your question.

In addition above suggestion, we could configure SSD as the 1st drive and HDD as 2nd driver to check if the issue persist.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim
