Install problems with Win XP, Boot Camp, and internet connection in PC partition of MacBook
I have partitioned my hard drive to use my MacBook with Windows XP in order to use a data analysis program that's recommended for use with XP. I have successfully made the partition and installed Windows. I can select which OS to boot from and get to the Windows desktop and control panel, etc. But the boot camp software won't install and I can't connect to the internet on the PC side--which are exactly the next steps I need to take!- The Boot Camp install guide says I need XP with service pack 2 or later. I have installed a full legal copy of Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 1 because this is what I have (it has never been installed on another computer).- I downloaded service pack 3 from the Mac side of my computer and saved it to the PC desktop. When I try to open it, I get an error that this is not an approved file type for Win32.- The Boot Camp installer says it needs a newer version of Windows Installer when I try to load the Boot Camp drivers from my Mac OS install DVD. But it says the component UPDATE is not available. This is a one-month old MacBook so I'm even unsure how the software can need a newer version but this is what it says.- To try to fix that problem with Boot Camp, I downloaded the latest version of Boot Camp from the Mac side of my computer and saved it to the PC desktop. It does NOTHING when I try to open it.- I have tried to open these .exe files (Boot Camp and Service Pack 3) both from the desktop and from a CD I burned, with the same result each time.- I cannot connect to the internet on the PC side of my computer (but can on the Mac). Therefore I can't get the automatic updates. How can I fix the internet connection? How can I get the service pack updates? How can I get the correct drivers for boot camp? Apple doesn't support any issues in the Windows operating system and phone support for Windows XP is expired. Please help!1 person needs an answerI do too
