When I worked on windows 7 professional RTM, I found that some folders in the system drive are inaccessible such as: Documents and settings, local settings, application data,............etc.I wanna know how to make these files accessible as it was in winodws XP cuz I need them HiYou cannot use these folders to store files. These folders are Juncltion Points and Symbolic Links. They are only there for legacy application compatibility. When an oldersoftwareinstallation program is installed and it is hard coded to look for the name of these files that existed in previous versions of Windows, the junctions and symbolic link folders will redirect the program to the new location in Windows 7.For instance, the Documents and Settings folder redirects to C:\Users. Application Data redirects to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming.Local Settings redirects to C:\Users\Ron\AppData\Localetc.You can use these new folders to store your files.Hope this helps.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

I'm asking you this because I have a game that put the savegames in application data. I was a windows XP user and now I'm using windows 7, and I don't want the game progress to be lost, so I want to restore back the savegame files to their supposed location in windows 7.Isn't there a way to access these folders?

Can you still boot into your XP installation? If so, then you can copy the files out of the Application Data folder into another folder that is accessible from Windows 7. Making your personal folders "Private" prevents access from other users or even from the same user in a different Windows installation.Bob

When I copy these files into the location "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming", will the game work without losing progress?

I suppose it depends on the game, but I would think that it willas long asyou are running the same version of the game. If you can't see them, then try starting a new game, save it, and then look for the new file to see if you placedyour othersaved gamesin the correct location.Bob
