Sounds like NVIDIA video stuff.Have you installed anything in the area of system/video updates lately? What do you think the problem might be?Fill in the blank: My system was working fine until ________________________________. Describe your current antivirus and anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc.Let's see what you've got there:Please provide additional information about your system and video configuration:Click Start, Run and in the box enter:msinfo32Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. There will be some personal information (like System Name and User Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just delete it from the pasted information. This will minimize back and forth Q&A and eliminate guesswork. For video driver information, expand the Components, click Display, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here.I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. Perfect.First of all, you do not have an XP problem - you have an NVIDIA problem.I suggest you visit their WWW site and let it do a driver scan on your system to check your NVIDIA installation and follow whatever advice it gives you. It is recommended to run the NVIDIA scan with Internet Explorer, then click the GRAPHICS DRIVERS button and it will check out your stuff:http://www.nvidia.com/Download/PreScan.aspx?lang=en-usSince the message you see (be careful when posting to pay attention to upper/lower case when typing messages) occurs at startup, and I know that NVIDIA likes to install it's own startup control panel things so you can adjust it, that is where your issue is. Unless you are a videophile, gamer, etc. you may not care about these extras - you just want the thing to work. Most people don't need the extra overhead of extra NVIDIA things they are never going to use running on their system so when they find out about them later, they just disable them. You can spot the NVIDIA control panel items in the Startup tab of the XP troubleshooting tool called MSCONFIG and disable them (disable does not mean uninstall), reboot and see how things look on a reboot. To get into MSCONFIG, click Start, Run and in the box enter:msconfigClick OK and locate the Startup tab and the NVIDIA items and uncheck the box to disable the one(s) that looks like your error message. You can always turn them back on later if things go haywire. On my system, I have zero startup items (my Startup tab is completely empty). If you can't get satisfaction or figure it out, then you should start working in the friendly NVIDIA support community which is here:http://www.nvidia.com/page/support.htmlYou have all your system information, so that should help you look really smart out there. If you are fine with the Startup item disabled in MSCONFIG, that will leave you a perhaps annoying disabled item in the Startup list that you may want to just get rid completely so you don't have to look at it. Those unused Startup items can be taken care of too, but let's see how you get on with these other chores first. Please report back what happens so I can make myself some updated notes. There is a third party startup manager that some folks prefer over the old fashioned MSCONFIG and you may like it better. I lets you manage your startup items and more. You can use it to generate a Startup list text file which is useful for sharing if you get hung up somehow with MSCONFIG: You may like a more modern tool like CCleaner better than those old fashioned built in Windows tools. Read about is and see if it sounds good:Download and install CCleaner from here:http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. This is nVidia driver problem. I had same problem when Windows Update automatically updated the driver. One way to prevent this kind of issue to arise is to prevent Windows Update to NOT update the OPTIONAL updates, leaving Critical, Important updates to be applied auomatically.I was unsuccessful in going to nVidia site and fix the error issue. I then resorted to revert back from System Restore.Apparently while cleaning registry, you may have deleted nVidia related registry.CCleaner lately is cleaning too much junk, and causing all sort of issues related to cleaning registry. So I would not recommend using CCleaner at least for now until they fix this issue. For you try to do a System Restore or at least sfc /scannow to see replacing missing/corrupted DLL will help you. There are more specific post how to fix this errror.
