Infection prevents Malwarebytes update.
Club Member's machine with 1GB RAM, 167 GB available hard drive space. Service pack 3 installed. MSE and SUPERAntiSpyware both update OK. Scans find less and less. The system crashes upon 5.28 MB being downloaded on Malwarebytes update in either safe mode or normal mode. Cannot do system restore as the System Restore tab doesn't appear on the System Properties dialog box.Any thoughts will be appreciated.Chuck the 80 year Old dogstill learning new tricks!

Hi Charles, I'd suggest you follow these steps and check if it helps. Step 1: Boot your machine in safe mode and run a complete system scan to remove malicious software in safe mode, then boot into normal mode and try to download the update after removing the malicious software. Step 2: There could be a third party software conflict stopping the download from completeing. I'd have you put your machine in a clean boot state and then download the update for Malwarebytes to eliminate third party software conflicts. Note: Do not forget to restart your computer in normal state after downloading the update in clean boot state. Note: Do not disable Malwarebytes program while perform clean boot operation on your machine. In order to restore your system restore tab, you will need to edit the registry. Azeez,I have successfully restored the System Restore tab. Now the system tells me that there are no restore points. I had managed to install Spybot Search & Destroy, but when attempting to run even in safe mode, it seems to open and then close immediately. As I was busy working on another computer's problems, AntiVirus 2100 reared its ugly head.Guess I'll have to wipe and restore the operating system. Thanks for your help.Chuck the 80 year Old dogstill learning new tricks!
