Indexing not running and won't turn on
Ok I'm a basic user so and not highly technical...so I won't be able to perform complicated tasks.... Problems with searching....looked at indexing options and it states it is not running, I tried troubleshooting the problem, it just tells me windows search is not running and does not apply a fix....I also tried re-building but that does not work, as the feature I would assume needs to be turned on. 2. I have looked at "Turn windows features on and off" Indexing option is not checked in the box...so I check it and I get an error message " An error occured. Not all features were successfully changed." (no kidding). 3. Looked under "Services" Windows Search - properties and yes the start u type is Automatic (Delayed)...I have also tried to start the feature form the "Service status" window - start....I get another warning message " Windows Search service on Local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other programs." Ideas?

The Indexing service in "turn Windows features on or off" is a legacy indexing service from Windows XP/2003 Server times and should not be used. However it seems that the Windows Search service is failing to start so please look in Event Viewer under System to see critical/error events related to Windows Seach and post back the contents of the events.Blogging about Windows for IT pros at www.theexperienceblog.com
