Index network share: confirmation
We're beginning the W7 pilot with a few computers. It's not clear to us how we add network folders (specifically My Documents folders) to W7 libraries. The folders reside Window 2003 Servers. Other forum entries state network folders sans Windows 2008 Server cannot be added to W7 libraries. Surely that can't be right. And I saw other suggestions or workaround which, even if they did work, would not scale to a large deployment.Any info appreciated. This may be a very short pilot. Thanks,Tom

Hi Tom,You can include folders in a library from many different locations, such as your computer's C drive, an external hard drive, or a network. Here are the two options I found for you if you are going to add network folders to library, 1. A network folder can only be included in a library if the content of the folder has been added to the search index. Therefore, if the folder is already indexed on the device where it's stored, you should be able to include it directly in the library.2. If the network folder is not indexed, an easy way to index it is to make the folder available offline. To do this,a. While connected to the network, locate the network folder that you want to make available offline.b. Right-click the folder, and then click Always available offline.c. After that, you will be able to create a library and add the share folder.
