Incorrect Password after windows updates

Hello all. I am having an issue with the Dell Venue 8 Pro tablets. None of the laptops, desktops nor Surface Pro tablets experience this issue.

Each time windows updates runs on these tablets, (that requires a restart), they report the password is incorrect when you try to login.  The only way I have found to fix this is to either restart or shut down the tablet a second time. When I do this, I get a message saying that someone else is logged on and are you sure you want to do this?  Well, no one else is logged on because the device just restarted.

The tablets are on a domain, some are in the office, and some are remote. Same issue, regardless of location.

I find it very odd that only the Dell Venue 8's are afflicted with this issue.

I'd love to hear if anyone else is experiencing this issue and if so, is there something to do to keep this from happening?

Thanks.

Can you rejoin the device to domain and check once ?

Hello Terri-Lyn,

Only the Dell Venue 8 Pro tablets have incorrect password issue?
Please double check if you type in the right password.

Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
1. Try to create a new account and log on as new account and check if the issue still exists.
Create a user account: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=windows-8
If this issue doesnt exist in the new account, please refer to the following article to fix the corrupted profile.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/fix-corrupted-user-profile#1TC=windows-7
This article is about Windows 7, and Windows 8 is similar.
2. Use the command Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to fix the system

If I had to take a guess, I would look into management or backup software, or any software that uses a user account other than the one you are attempting to log in with. For example, Acronis uses a dedicated user account to launch Acronis services, if these services are launching while updates are being installed, they potentially could be interfering with logging on. You could use msconfig to disable the services for any suspected software to test the scenario.

Thanks to each of you for the quick responses, and sorry for not responding earlier.  I may have just sorted it out, but at the same time, don't understand why only the Venue 8's have this issue.

Brandon, you were on the right track with something else trying to log in.  All these users have a Skype acct that does not have the same password as the domain acct they use to log in to the machine.

I just tried my Venue that hasn't been added to the domain yet and after an update, it did not say the password was wrong.   The other 2 Venue 8's I just updated are on the domain and gave me the error.

I'm going to chalk it up to Skype for now.

Thanks a bunch.
