Incorrect Network password
All of a sudden I need to enter a network password to access other devices on my network.I found the 10 digit password under 'View or print Homegroup password'. When I try it I get message 'Login failure: Unknown user name or bad password". The user name is already entered with the user that signed in.What other network password is it looking for?I tried the router password, the user password, Nothing works.Any ideas? Better yet, is there any way to disable the required password?I didn't need to do this until I set up the remote device to use my local printer.Ron

The quickest way would be for you to choose the option to "Use another account" and then enterthe machine name that is hosting thenetwork resource you are trying to attach tofollowed by a backslash and a user account name onthat machine and then the password for that account onthat machine..the format is machinename\usernamepassword for that accountanother way is to create your account that exists on the machine that your are going from complete with the exactsame password on the machine that you are going to (the one that hosts the share) if the account name and password are identical the passthrough authentication should work. Hope this helps

I tried still didn't work. When I click the remote device why does it come up with user name as RONSGATEWAY\Ron ?RONSGATEWAY is my device, not the device I am trying to access. RON is my user ID.Ron

Ron:That is the default behavior for Windows 7 as it attempts to access network resources. Could you be more specific about what you are calling a "Remote Device"? Is it a shared folder on another machine on your network, or perhaps a printer?

How do you setup the remote device to use the local printer? Are you using HomeGroup? You may remove the HomeGroup and check the result. Also I suggest you change the NTLM authentication level with the following steps. 1. Launch regedit from Start Search box.2. Find the following branch. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa 3. Create a DWORD key under Lsa and set: Name: LmCompatibilityLevel Value: 1 4. Restart. If the issue persists, please temporary disable firewall.Arthur Xie - MSFT
