Incoming Connections
Under windows 7 Home Premium, I created VPN host using "New Incoming connection". After the wizard it created the icon "Incoming connections" but after reboots it keeps diappearing. Any idea how to fix this? In Vista the icon sticks and it stays as a network adapter. but in 7 the "incoming connections" icon keeps disappear no matter how many times I recreate.

Hi, The new created connection icon usually listed in Network Connections folder. Please open the folder and check whether it lists beside the "Local Area Connection" icon. Meanwhile, please click the "Network and Sharing Center" on the system tray to check whether there is any VPN connection. If the icon kept missing, I suggest you refer to the following steps to create a new VPN connection. 1.Click Start button --> Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Share Center --> Click "Set up a new connection or network" under the "Change your networking settings". 2.Select " Connect to a workplace" and click Next --> Use my internet connection (VPN) --> Type the internet address and destination name in the box --> Check 'Don't connect now; just set it up so I can connect later' and click Next --> Enter your VPN username and password --> Then click the 'Create' button --> Click the 'Close' button to finish. Thanks, Novak

I know how to connect to a VPN. Connecting to VPN is not the issue. Both your instructions are for clients. The issue is I'm setting up a VPN Host and whenever I restart the Host computer, it loses the "Incoming connections" icon and client computers can no longer connect. and as I stated on the question, I have done this same thing in Vista and it is not an issue in Vista. I know how to setup vpn and this only seems to be issue with windows 7

Hi Jamesism, I'm sorry for misunderstanding in my last reply. I understand that you would like to create a VPN Host on Windows 7 machine and the new created Incoming Connection kept missing. Based on my research, I suggest you temporarily turn off firewall and refer to the following article to create a new Incoming Connection. How to Configure your Computer to Accept Incoming VPN Connections in Windows 7 Please Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. I'm also having the same problem as the OP. I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I create a new Incoming Connection (PPTP VPN Server) via Network and Sharing Center -> Change adapter settings -> File -> New Incoming Connection... The new connection is displayed as a network adapter named "Incoming Connections". I can connect to my PPTP VPN with no problems. However EVERY time I restart the computer this connection is removed / deleted / disappears. It doesn't matter if the firewall is disabled at any point during this process. This is clearly a bug in Windows 7 x64, as I don't have this problem in Windows 7 x86. On my x86 laptop I can restart all day long and the connection remains as it should be. There is certainly no confusion here between a PPTP client and server and neither the OP nor I are making any mistakes in this process.

I have W7 x64. I am having the same issue - HOWEVER, I have in the past created an incoming connection that stayed there till I deleted it an hour ago. NOW, I can't re-create one. IT WOULD REALLY be nice if responders READ the OP post and put their mind in motion before they put their hands in gear. The issue is after creating an incoming connection (as I and the OP already know how to do that and it is NOT a client cause it is INCOMING) the connection icon goes away -- actually in my case it is NEVER created.

Dont know if it'll work for you but t worked for me for some reason.. Not sure if it'll still work after restart though..

Hi, In my case, the connection re-appears after starting "Routing and Remote Access" using Services.msc. I have set it to Automatic (Delayed Start) and after the reboot, incomming connection was still working. I hope this helps, Emir
