Inbox Folder Wiped out in Outlook Express 6
Using OE6 on a Windows XP system. I was checking Outlook and noticed that someone I know sent me a number of large files. While Outlook was receiving incoming mails, it froze, and I had to shut the program down. I accessed my email through a Webmail account to save the incoming files, then deleted everything (only about a dozen emails). When I opened Outlook again, my inbox was completely empty. Every other folder of Outlook contained past emails, but there was nothing in the inbox folder (thousands of emails from the last two years). I tried to search my PC to find out if that box had been corrupted, but have been totally unsuccessful in finding DBX files, or any other files that match the name of the folders that are still there. How can I determine if my inbox is gone for good, or if it's corrupted because of size issues, where I can find it on my PC?2 people need an answerI do too

I think you mean Outlook Express. Outlook is a completely different program. By default, Outlook Express stores its .dbx files in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\<identity>\Microsoft\Outlook Express where: <user name> = your user name <identity> = your Outlook Express identity, in the form {string of letters, numbers, dashes} You might be able to recover missing messages using DBXpress .

Two weeks ago I did a file compact and lost one third of my emails. These particular emails, in the centre of my email folders, were invaluable to me. After 2 weeks I have managed to retrieve 80% of them using "Recovery Toolbox for OE", but without their attachments. A few days after this, a very large email folder suddenly emptied, but I could see my "missing files" in the source file. After 2 weeks of using every means I could, I finally managed to recover them from the source file, again with "Recovery Toolbox for OE" and could read them individually in a new backup folder but kept getting an error message when I copied them into their OE folder. I deleted their actual OE folder name (e.g. "cards") and opened a new folder called "cards 1" and had no problem copying them across. I have also learned during this learning curve that I can highlight actual messages in OE and copy them to a folder on the desktop where they are perfectly readable. This folder can then be saved to an external drive, disk or my docs etc.
