Importing from Outlook.pst into LiveMail
How do I import mails and contacts etc from Outlook.pst on old pc (W2000) into LiveMail on new pc (W7)? I've copied .pst onto new pc, opened LiveMail and selected Import messages, chosen Windows Mail as Outlook isn't listed, changed the path for location of .pst file and then I get a message about "no messages found in this folder" or "another application is running that has folder open" -...select another folder or close application..." Thanks

You cannot read the pst file in Windows Live Mail. You should have imported your data from Outlook 2000 to Outlook Express or exported it from Outlook 2000 as csv files. If you still have the old computer you could do this now. If not, Google for "read pst" and you should find applications which can read pst files and export the data from them. You can then import the data to Windows Live Mail. An alternative is to install a trial version of Outlook 2010, export the data and then uninstall the trial.

I have just come across this post as I am currently attempting to import data from Outlook 2000 to Windows Live Mail for a friend. The export function in Outlook 2000 allows two csv formats, Dos csv and Windows csv. Does it matter which one is used?

Use Windows csv. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/222261 for the reason why.

Ok, thats a completely useless lik=nk. So some characters get lost. What does that have to do with getting Outlook MNail and Contacts into Live mail. Sorry, not fair to you but it is not helpful. Mostly mad at Microsoft and I love Microsoft but here I understand why soome people hate Microsoft. How stupid. You can move from Outlook too Microsofts great new mail program?? Why wouls Microsoft with their thoiusands of programmers and Billions of dollars not make it easy for people to go from Outlook to Live Mail?? I do computer consulting and deal with thousands of Outlook users and here someone at home who couldn't affort MS Office decided to go to Office Home Student Edition which then guides you to Live Mail. I may just start recommending people use other products. This is dumb.
