Important to Know before going to Windows 7
IMPORTANT: Windows 7 RC Blocks Installations of Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1If you are a MCT that needs to test the courses and labs do not go with Windows 7 yet or prepare another environment in consequence. (Incompatibility with Lab Launcher)Also means for Training Centers that are offering Microsoft Courses will not be able to switch the student desktops to Windows 7 because all new courses now come with Microsoft Lab Launcher which requires Virtual Server to be installed locally on each users desktop.Hopefully a solution will be found before W7 goes live.Meanwhile if anyone has a workaround, please share it will be greatly appreciated by many i am sure.Iv'e also posted this in the Virtualization Forum as i think it really touches 2 target audiences(can you tell i work with Sharepoint a lot.. hehe)Benjamin Niaulin

Hi Benjamin,They have also blocked Virtual PC 2007. The reason, it appears is because of the new XP Mode option which can be downloaded for Windows 7 to allow users to run software that will only work on XP in a virtualised area. Unfortunately 'all' machines must have a processor and BIOS that supports Virtual technology, without VT enabled processor and BIOS the new XP Mode cannot be installed on the PC. VMware Workstation works fine though on Windows 7.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

Thanks John,i am well aware of XPM and love it, i also LOVE windows 7 it definitly grew on me quickly and cant uninstall it anymore heheI also had VMware Server which can hosts guest virtual pcs in x64 which is really something that Microsoft should look at besides HyperV as more and more systems come in x64 now and x86 is slowly becoming legacy as Ram is quickly goingover 4gb for a standard pc.However the current problem is Virtual PC blocking Virtual Server and Microsoft Learning is currently making all of their courses come and require Virtual Server to be installed on every PC. Which means that as Trainers and Learning Centers we cant really move on to windows 7 because we cant run the course labs as of now.Benjamin Niaulin
