I have a new computer with Windows 7. Several times I have added some icons for games such as Minesweeper to my desktop. The icons stay there for differing periods of time then disappear. All the other icons remain in position. I am the only person with access to this computer.

Hi, The issue can be caused by some scheduled tasks that helps you to clear the shortcuts. Desktop Cleanup Utility is not present in Windows 7. It can be caused by some third party programs. Please specially pay attention to any system optimizing programs. · Also, when you choose to show desktop icons, system will change the following value in registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced --- a value named "HideIcons". Please manually change the data of the value "HideIcons" to 0, restart the computer to see if issue still exists. If so, I suggest that let's create a new account to see the result. Hope it helps.
