I want to replace the bootmgr file
heyy guys... I used to have windows vista and later got windows 7 from a friend. I installed windows 7 and it worked fine. Windows vista was on the C: drive while windows 7 on D: drive. I didn't want vista so i formatted the C: drive. The when i rebooted windows 7 it came as 'BOOTMGR is Missing' So I put in the windows vista CD and got the windows vista BOOTMGR. I don't have the windows 7 CD. Everything is working fine in the setup file of windows 7 there is a file named BOOTMGR. I want to know if I can replace the vista bootmgr with the windows 7 bootmgr. Any help will do..

Do you have Windows 7 Installation Disc? if you don't have one, you can make one from Windows 7 (search "Create a repair disc" in Start) And then, change the active partition to D drive. (Open Command Prompt, type "Diskpart" enter, "sel disk 0" enter, "sel par 2" and enter.) Using System Start repair tools in it, you can change it."Everything we do is dictated by motive."

no i don't have the disk. Nothing is wrong with it its just that cause I used the vista CD to fix the missing bootmgr, now the boot animation comes as vista's not windows 7. I just want to change it back to windows 7 animation.

Hi, Please refer to the following steps. 1. Open the Command Prompt with Administrator privilege. 2. Type “bcdboot d:\Windows” to initialize the system partition. Also, you may use bcdedit command to modify the boot entry. For detailed information, please refer to the following links. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744347(WS.10).aspx http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/15234727-540f-49ab-8d09-4d8fcc250c4c Hope this helps. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. sorry, stupid thing you do...you can`t treat mashine as that... you can get yourself a copy of installation Windows 7 DVD, some of your friends can download it for you as an ISO file\and burn one for you then, you start installation from the begining, install OS on drive C:\ (active partition) and ,drive D:\ change into an extended logical disk that`s the only right way you can have a good working computer....
