I want to know if it is possible to install a network printer using the built in vbs scripts in Windows 7, for all users of a workstation?
- We are using Windows Server 2008 R2 - Our client workstations are Windows 7 Enterprise Edition - I know you can use printui but I was wondering if you can use the built in vbs scripts in C:\windows\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts\en-US. If not can you provide a sample printui script. - We would like any network printers installed by the local admin account during our imaging process with MDT to be installed for all users of the workstation.

"- We would like any network printers installed by the local admin account during our imaging process with MDT to be installed for all users of the workstation" Depending on the size of your network, this should be managed by 'Print Managment' from the Server with a GPO linked to user groups. If you must manage printers from the local machine, I suggest adding a script to the public startup programs as local admin on the local machine. This way any time someone logs into the machine, the script will run , mapping the printers.

Thank you for the information. Unfortunately, we use Equitrac to do job costing and the ports are not straight IP addresses (i.e. 192.168.1.2), they are in this format EQ_IP_192.168.1.2). I noticed in the group policy template that you have to put in a straight IP address. What would be the steps to use a GPO using the printers host name, if possible?

Im not familiar with Equitrac. However, from the Print Server, right click 'Print Management' and select 'Migrate Printers'. In the next WIndow you can 'Import Print Queues...' This in turn pulls the drivers from the file you select. Once this is complete you should be able to apply a GPO to use the imported printer object. On the local machine, you can add your custom print object (in WIndows 7) by : Start -> Devices and Printers ->Add Printer, next -> Add Local Printer, next -> Create New Port , next -> from the drop menu select 'Statndard Tcp/IP' , next -> enter the Hostname of your Equitrac print object, next -> Windows will search for the Printer and load the drivers.
