I want to disable the default email account in outlook 2003 so that I get prompted to select an account before I send a message.
I'm running outlook 2003 as my mail client on XP. I have 7 accounts (me, wife kids, junk etc) setup. WE simply are not disciplined enough to remember to change the account every time we want to send mail so I end up sending stuff as my wife if I set the default to her and she sends stuff as me if we set it up to be me. Is there a way to eliminate the default and get Outlook to ask for what account to use?1 person got this answerI do too

Set up an Outlook profile for each person: 1. Close Outlook. 2. Go to Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles... and select Prompt for a profile to be used . 3. Click the original Outlook profile, click the Copy... button and assign a profile name. Repeat as desired. 4. Click OK . Each person can then start Outlook, select the desired profile from the menu, and assign a default account for that profile.

There is no way in Outlook to set it to prompt for a mail account. You can use Profiles and only define the single mail account for each Profile - This will only work if the mail addresses are unique, ie separate password/username for each mail account. You cannot switch Profiles in Outlook, you have to physically close outlook and the open in the other Profile
