You need the following programs. TCP-COM: TCP-Com - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com Virtual Serial Port Connection: Virtual Serial Port - Virtual COM Port Driver - Create a Virtual Serial Port You may make a pair of virtual COM ports on two computers with Virtual Serial Port Connection, and then configure the connection in TCP-COM. This method is also introduced in Wikipedia Important Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. You have not answered the question. Your solution works if both ends are PCs. But what if the other end is a simple device with a serial port? I have a COM port on my PC & I want to talk over the serial port, not a virtual serial port routed over IP. In XP, this was possible as was described in the original question. How does one do the same thing in Win 7?

First of all need to connect hardware to serial port then you have to installed hardware drivers for that hardware. If your hardware is Networking Equipment and if command line interface is available for configuration then you can go to hyper terminal which is generally given in Start Menu>Accessories>Communication. Your Command prompt must be available by this configuration.discount auto parts
