There was a problem with the CD drive in my Compaq 610, so i uninstalled it from device manager, but now it is not showing up and i'm not entirely sure how to get it back? Any help would be brilliant! Thanks.

What was the problem you were having with it? If it was a physical problem, it may need to be replaced, and may not show up until it is. Usually a reboot will "find new hardware" and install the driver for it. If not, under Action in Device Manager, click on "Scan for hardware changes." SC Tom

Lets say i put a music CD in there, it would detect the CD but it would list the tracks as being only 1kb, it did this for more than one CD, im unsure what to do because i've never seen this before Thanks

If I look at a music CD in Explorer, mine shows the same way (I believe that's normal- it's that way in XP, too). If I double-click on one of the tracks, it starts playing. If I double-click on the CD itself, the whole CD plays. If you put a data CD in, does it show up ok? What exactly is it that you're trying to do that makes you think the drive is defective? SC Tom

The reason i think it's defective is that CD's wont play on it, windows media player just crashes when i try and play a CD through it. Although without trying to play a cd media player functions fine. I'm going to try a data CD and see how that goes. Thanks
