I received a notice to Re-Activate My OS due to extensive Hardware changes. I think it was fraud.
I received a notice that I must re-validate my Win XP Pro 2002 SP3 software as I made too many Hardware modifications. My Internet access was blocked, so I called the Telephone support center on the box that looked like the usual Windows Activation window. When I called the number The call was answered by a man with a thick African accent. he forwarded my call to another department, where the person also had a thick african accent, and also passed me to another department. This time I was becoming rather annoyed. This time the call was answered by a woman with a thick african accent, she said, "I have your name and information so I may Help you" I asked her to repeat my name and info, she replied with the same statement. At this time I realized this could NOT be a microsoft support center, and ended the call. I re-booted my machine, and it started as usual. I had not been able to run live update since, and when I installed and ran Microsoft Security Essentials It found (Exploit:Win32/ShellCode.A) and it indicated it was removed. since then I was unable to update MSE or any other components. I recently noticed that I had not been notified of any Windows updates. I contacted my Firewall/Anti-Virus manufacturer/ (Zone Alarm Extreme Security) I was told to run a deep scan in safe mode with networking. It seems my main problem was "My Web Search" which was inadvertantly installed as a search bar, and immediately deleted in Control Panel/Add/remove programs. I was also advised to download and run several after market Anti-Malware programs, and each of them discovered and removed a number of threats. My computer stopped recognising my DVD Rom, I followed the suggested repairs suggested in the Microsoft support, but it still will not recognise it. Before I did the thorough antivirus/malware scan I contacted a certified repair person that said it seemed I had a virus blocking me from doing a clean install using the DVD Rom.When I reboot, my DVD Rom light will blink, but it is not recognised in Win Explorer, But My DVD RW is, the DVD RW is SATA and BIOS will not allow to boot from the Win XP disk. All scans show my system free from threats now, and a stand alone speed test, (speakeasy.net/speedtest) indicates I am running at 1200-2500 Kbps through my wireless adapters. however, programs still load and run slow, as if keystrokes are being recorded. And periodically my wireless adapters will continually disconnect and re-connect to the network. Any next steps suggested would be appreciated.1 person needs an answerI do too
