I need serious help with this printer sharing problem
I have been Months with this problem with no end in sight , its very simple , NONE of my Vista/XP 32bit computers on my network will print to my printer that is installed on my Windows 7 Pro 64bit PC. I have tried every trick on the web involving drivers and it just will not work. What I have tried:removing and re-finding the networked printer....several times adding both 64 and 32 bit drivers available for sharing on the printer installed on my Win 7 PC.made sure network discovery is turned ON and all sharing features are set to on.turned windows firewall offinstalling vista 32 drivers on the Vista PCs (only makes things worse)Some info about the issue:I can both see and connect to the printer in question from ALL the vista and XP computers on my network yet ALL attempts to print a test page fail.the printer has a green check mark next to it on all computers and says it is active and default , still will not print AT ALL.when I try to pint from Notepad from ANY networked Vista 32 PC to the 7 64PC it says "The Handle is invalid" ...(what the ____ handle are we talking about here anyways??)I have the very latest drivers from HP , ALL updates appliedI have ALL updates applied for ALL of my drivers and ALL updates from Microsoft , ALL BIOS's and drivers are ALL up to date.this problem did NOT occur with the same PC's and Vista 64 installed on the same PC that PC being the printers host. What Hardware:HP Photosmart C5580 All in one , windows 7 64bit driver downloaded from HP , 32bit driver added for networked PC's to download when they connect to it.I need serious help here , I just redid my wifes PC full format and reinstall of Vista Prem 32 SP2 and promised her it would print.....I'm a dead man.....any help would be greatly appreciated , I have already contacted HP and used their help forums with NO success.thanks you , I will be home from work in about 12-15 hours to respond if anyone has any ideas.Tall , dark....chubby...and handsome.

I've had similar problem printing to a Laserjet 1200 on my Win 7 Home Ultimate form a XP Pro system. I could never get the Add-printer wizardto work correctly. I finally just browsed to the Win 7 box from XP and double clicked on the printer. The correct driver was installed and now I can print to it.Rich

For Jim:I just printed your post and the replies on this 32 bit Vista laptop to an HP1300 printer connected to my wife's new 64 bit, high end, Windows 7 desktop - d10. (I am not bragging. You can see below that I have my own problems with printer sharing). The Vista laptop found the printer and installed its 64 bit driver - hp LaserJet 1300 PCL 5. This printer is shared and part of a homegroup on her desktop, which was NOT in the sleep state or off. Both the laptop and desktop are running Norton Internet Security 2010.I am willing to review my settings if you want to ask more specific questions. Good luck, BobFor anyone who has suggestions:I also have another 64 bit Windows 7 desktop - d06 that I am trying to get to print on my wife's desktop - d10 printer. The d6 pc also has NIS2010. As of now, d6 can't access d10 via network or homegroup. On homegroup d6 I can see the two d10 users but they don't open. No shared printer is seen either. d10 came with Windows 7 and NIS2010 installed but no homegroup. on d6 I set up the homegroup and then installed NIS. Could this be the cause of d10 not being accessible by d6? Thanks for any help

Thanks for the offer/help Bob , I am using the simple auto-setup default settings which I assume you did as well , yet I have 4 other PC's (both Vista and XP MCE 32bit) that refuse to print. Maybe its a sharing setting problem , could you snipping tool your sharing settings (or type them out) and send them to my email? if so I will PM you my email if this if possible. My wife is getting ready to kill me , this is her home office PC and she allowed me to format/reinstall to try to resolve this problem.I have till sundown.....LOL JK she won't really kill me.....I hope. but yeah , she hates having to share her files to my computer (which works without issue BTW) just to print ,and i need the scanning and copy function in here so I need the printer hooked to my PC.....yikes.I also tried creating a port , setting the ip to the printer yada yada...still no print.I have no idea where to go now , I have had this problem since I got this copy of Windows 64 last year.Tall , dark....chubby...and handsome.

done , thanks man. I removed all my printer drivers and software from my PC (as per HP's instructions) and burned another disk with the latest drivers extracted (which I already had) and tried to reinstall them , same result all around. I then removed the drivers (again!!) , moved the printer into the other room and hooked it to the Vista Ultimate 32bit PC and now everyone can print......however I have to go in and kick my kids off their PC to scan...which do a lot of...just to send it to my server so I can edit them on my PC....wow...just wow.it is either bad Windows 7 64Bit drivers (which are described as NON NET BTW--->>>PS_AIO_04_C5500_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_130_140 ) from HP OR there is a severe network sharing issue with Windows 7 and "some" printers.but I am willing to take a look and see if you have any sharing settings set where as I do not.thanks again Bob , I really appreciate you taking you're time to help.PS: I wonder , where do I send the BILL for my hours and hours wasted on this..which should be simple?? so many billionaires at Microsoft and so much money I have spent on licenses over the years and years just to get jammed with more DRM than ever and yet....where is the customer service?if only we could all do business like this...Tall , dark....chubby...and handsome.

JIM have you just browsed to the PC sharing the printer, right clicked it, and clicked "connect" and let windows figure it out.Wizards real are not that "smart" no magic should be needed. You will not get all the bells and whistles this way but after you get it printing you can add the software

I have tried every trick and workaround posted on the net both automated and manual , I cannot print from my vista/XP PCs to my C5580 on my Windows & 64BIt , nothing works.trust me , I have even tried Full OS reinstalls on 3 of my PC's including the Windows 7 64 , I can connect to the printer , it then shows the printer as "ready" on each and every PC....but it will not print. I just hooked the printer to my kids Vista 32 PC installed the drivers from HP and now all the PC's easily connect (including the Windows 7 64bit) and print without issue. There has got to be a problem with the Windows 64bit drivers for the HP Photosmart C5580 printer that prevents it from networking properly , and believe me when I say I have tried everything....I have a mountain of papers printed from every tech site on planet earth with every Backdoor Frontdoor Sidedoor Trapdoor trick/procedure you can imagine. I have even downloaded and installed patches that are not even for my model printer. Including the one in this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistaprinting/thread/20ddb4f5-2547-441e-9360-fc6fdb04fad1its just one of those things that has to happen to several people for anyone at HP or MS to take note and do something about it , and the chances of even 5 people having the exact same home network I have?....slim to none.thanks for the reply Bubba , I appreciate the input.PS: Just incase someone at Microsoft wuold like to take a look at the Windows 7 64bit driver from HP for the Photosmart C5580 , here it is: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software11/COL30128/mp-74904-1/PS_AIO_04_C5500_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe Tall , dark....chubby...and handsome.

Hi, Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Try the following method: Fix printing problems by resetting the print spooler 2. Please add the printer with the Add printer Wizard in Windows Vista and see how it works. 3. Check the port settings of the printer in Windows 7. Since the issue is related to a specific device and it persists even after reinstalling Windows 7, it is still recommended that you contact HP support for further investigation.
