I lost the desktop for an account I when I meant to remove the password
I have Windows XP Home. I had two user accounts, one Owner and one Administrator, but I only used Owner, which I had given a password. I saw a tip on how to remove the password requirement for signing in, and as a result lost the entire account. Most important, I lost everything I had on my desktop including very important folders. Is there a way to get the account and its desktop back?1 person got this answerI do too

What do you mean "lost the account"? What was the tip? Please clarify what happens when you start Windows and what you did.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

I actually could no longer log in to the account I "lost." So I decided to rebuild what I lost by doing a search for all the folders I had lost and editing them. That turned out to be a mistake, because I was "fixing" them. In the middle of the night I got the idea of just using system restore, restoring to the day before I "lost" my account. That worked. I was back in business, but I lost some more recent information, and felt the results of the editing. So I have been patching up some losses. But I guess I found my own answer. System restore got me back to the account I had lost with all the folders on my desktop safely returned.

That's great. I hope you're backing up to external media regularly so you don't lose any more data. Thanks for taking the time to post your solution.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Cody, there is no point in even responding to this "cindypcdoctor" person. She or he or it was supposed to have been banned already. This is the same spam as always and until whoever works on the MS Answers Forums gets some sort of filtering in place this will continue to happen. You can't just keep banning spammers because they only come back under a different name. Mark the post as abusive (don't know why you unmarked it, a quick search of MS Answers would have told you this is a spammer), delete the spam links, delete the post, lock the thread. Which I'll leave up to you to do in case you want to respond.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
