I lost Network and Internet connections
I am using a clean install Windows Vista. I mayor may not have changed my internet settings but, I lost the localarea connectionand the internet connection. I have tried to change the settings but, I have not had any success and I don't have the original working settings. I had just installed Trend Micro PCillin. Is there a general utility that can diagnose and repair this small but obstructing problem?

Maybe your NIC not recognized by your Windows Vista, Check whether it's found in Device Manager or not. If not, so you need to re-install it or find a suitable driver for it in Vista. Good luck

Had a similar problem.Recently purchased aSony FE41Z with Vista (pre-installed). Have to say that I expect to like the eventual fully debugged Vista product but that's another story. I initially installed Norton 360 because Zone Alarm wasn't yet Vista compatible.I've had no broblem with 360 and comms. ZA now has beta available... solast night Iloaded it... and immediately lost connection to the router(Vistareports limited, but actually zilch). Uninstalled ZA.. still no connection.Performed system restore (last reasonable restore point)... network working again. Hmmm. So I thought I would try Avast (free addition), which they say is wholly Vista compatible. Strangely.... same problem:immediately lost connection again. Before anyone asks, tried this with both wireless andwired port, and router is as up to date as you can get: wireless n. DHCP (or maybe TCP/IP) corruptions might well be the issue here. Will trya few things the next couple of days tosee where the problem might be. For example, I haven't reloaded 360 yet to see if itis software product related (will the same now happen with 360, as it might with PCillin?). If you are still having problems, suggest you simply find a convenient restore pointwhich "should" make your connection available again, albeit with very limited protection.

The kb below explains this issue and has the fix available for download. The default gateway setting is lost when you wake a Windows Vista-based computer from sleephttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/933872
