I just started experiencing problems with three email accounts on my Outlook Express 6. I use Comcast as the server.
I have three email accounts in my outlook Express using windows XP. My IP is Comcast. I just sent an email to myself, it took a long time to authorize (it never did that before) and when I received it it said it had come from another one of the accounts. All three are ridiculously intertwined, the 'from' box on the email says it came from my wife's account even though I sent it to myself, I went through the account settings with Comcast and they check out okay, the three accounts work ok on their server. I walked through the settings on Outlook Express with the Comcast person and she thought they were correct. Very confusing, so much so I have trouble describing the problem.

Where you sent it is irrelevant.Working on the server and working in OE is apples and oranges.See if your account settings match these. Comcast has just about the worst tech support there is and half of them probably don't know the correct settings. How do I set up/configure Outlook Express, Windows Mail & Windows Live Mail for Comcast email?http://www.comcast.com/customers/faq/FaqDetails.ashx?Id=2288Make sure the SMTP port is 587 and that My Server Requires Authentication is checked.Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]

In addition to Bruce's comments, I would go to File | Identities and set up a new Identity and then add your accounts one at a time and verify each is working correctly. Once that is correct, then you can go to File | Import | Messages and import from the older Identity. steve "SteveyV" wrote in message news:7aa4a77a-f7fa-4887-a2e5-4947586297e7...I have three email accounts in my outlook Express using windows XP. Bruce: Thank you. I know the post was confusing because the whole thing was very confusing to me. I am going to go to the link you provided and try that. I am also wondering if the OE got infected and is it feasible to download another OE from free downloads and start all over on the OE end ? Prior to this another computer got infected and while attempting to retrieve the data a repairman discovered that the mother board was fried. He saved the hard drive and I prlugged it into the good computer in order to retrieve whatever was of value. I immediately scanned it and there were no infected files. But it is right after this that my email started acting up. I can't help but wonder if something happened to the OE emaqil program on my computer that might be causing this? I will let you know how I make out with your link but is there any harm in my downloading another version and trying to start from there? You're right, the Comcast people just read from a manual and couldn't help if you veered from the plan at all.

There is no such thing as a standalone OE to download. It is part of IE6 and built in to your OS. Creating new identities as Steve suggested is almost the same as a new OE since each identity will have new data files.General precautions for Outlook Express:Do not archive mail in the Inbox or Sent Items. Create your own user defined folders and move the messages you wish to save to them. Empty Deleted Items folder daily. Although dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2GB, I recommend about a 300MB max for less chance of corruption.Information about the maximum file size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=903095After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often.Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently.
