I have windows xp =home edition- need to install norton to take care of infections but not able to after upgrading to servicepack 2
When trying to install the norton protection or anything else a box with a red X in the corner comes up and says that it cant continue because I dont have permission. A guy at Norton told me that most likely micorsoft could do something so that it will enable me to install properly. Keep in mind that I had just gone threw the process of updating to a servicepack 2 and I havent noticed this happening before but then again my computer is somewhat infected at the time. Does anybody know if there something that I can do do fix this? Please Help.1 person needs an answerI do too

You must log onto your computer as administrator.

This is incorrect, sorry. The problem is that:1. "kkja28" has an infected computer. In most cases one cannot install an antivirus onto an infected computer.2. "kkja28" hasn't kept his/her computer updated - XP has been up to Service Pack 3 for years now. Most certainly s/he should never have tried to install a Service Pack onto an infected computer.3. "kkja28" probably didn't have a current antivirus installed."kkja28" - If you did not have a current version antivirus installed, the smartest thing to do is back up your data and do a clean install of Windows. If you are unwilling to do this (not recommended), then you need to do the work to make sure your computer is 100% virus/malware-free. Go through the steps described at the link below and don't skip any of the preparatory work.http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_MalwareOnce the computer is completely clean, install Service Pack 3. Once SP3 and all subsequent Windows Updates are successfully installed, then install a good antivirus. Norton is possibly one of the worst you could choose with only McAfee being worse than it. I recommend ESET NOD32 (commercial) or Avast Free.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
