Disinfecting a computer from virus can be very difficult thing to do. If your computer it's already infected sometimes anti virus cannot remove the virus itself. in this case backup all files and fresh install Windows is easier, make sure you back up all your files. After you fresh install Windows, install anti virus and update it before you restore your data.

Try this for sure..... Emsi.com Antimalware (has a free home edition A-Squared) LINK http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/ (This is a very highly rated product ! with many awards and over 3 million removal defintions.) Make sure you are performing FULL system scans ! Choose in settings maximum scan settings for like zip files and compressed files (longer scan time). Choose full blown scan everything settings to really hunt down and remove. It is possible like "in the wild threats" that some antimalware companies don't have defintions yet and others do. this may be the case also as to why things were not removed - but you did say "known viruses" ? The problem may be spyware catagory threats that can bog down the system and cause crashes too. Try several antispyware programs such as A-Squared (which also has Ikarus Antivirus), Superantispyware, Lavasoft Ad-Aware.Gerald60606 Windows Live Spaces http://gerald60606.spaces.live.com/default.aspx
