I have a Sound problem, in W7, running inside MS VPC 2007 SP1, on vista 64 bit
I installed the W7 PDC/WinHec version on a VPC, Everything worked fine, except thatthe OSdid not recognize the sound card. I installed the new beta on a VPC and it too workes OK, except thatI stilldon't have sound.I'll appreciate any link or hint you can send me to solve the problem.P.S It took me some time to find why DNS is not working in the VPC and why you must give the VPC W7 OS a static DNS address of 192.168.131.254 to enable smooth browsing.

Not all drivers are supported in the beta. In general Windows Vista drivers should work, but I've found at least 2 instances (on my Lenovo tablet) where it doesn't.I'd suspect that the equipment manufacturers are working on driver updates to fix incompatibilities with Win7 and we should see them soon (I hope!) - John

Howdie, have you tried using Windows Update? Normally this will install the correct driver, recording to other users and the Windows 7 BetaPeter Forster, MVP Virtual Machine, Austria

The VPC has virtual hardware associated with it. You'll have to check the settings for your virtual machine to be sure. For example, I have a simulated S3 video card in one of my VPC's (can't recall which one right now) - but I haven't seen them used for years.- John

I am on sp1 and i did not hear sound until i installed the vm additions.robin

Hi everyone,Thank you for all your help. I solved the problem. You have to go to the device manager of W7, navigate to thefaulty sound virtual hardware and update the drivermanually, from theinf file located in theProgram Files\Virtual Machine Additions in theVPC. Seems like there is a wrong pointer in the inf file, and the driver fileis not copied to the driver store during installation of the Virtual machine additions. My W7 in now working without any known problems on theVPC.Notice that depends on your network policy and security settings of the host machine, you might need to set theDNS address of the virtual network card inside theVPC to static192.168.131.254.

Can someone confirm that to me?Also, I quoted GadiM, because I have MS VPC running XP with sound, and when I installed Win7 in MS Virtual PC, I like others am not getting any sound. When I go to Device Manager, I don't even see a slot for 'Sound', so apparently there is no sound hardware. You say to install the Additions, but for some reason they are not getting installed. Also, can you help a little bit more with a more detail on how you got the sound to work?Thank youRobert Lanzapowerconduit@live.com

I'm getting an error message when trying to install the add-ons.Did anyone have a problem with the add-on's and if so, how did you fix it?ThanksRobPS I have a XP virtual, and the add-ons did install on that. So I do seem to know how to install the add-on's without an issue on XP. Not sure why I'm getting the errors with Win7.
