I have 2 computers but can't view shared files on one computer on network.
Please Help. Both computers are running Windows XP home. Main computer can view shared files on second. But second computer has only its shared files in My Network Places. When I click the View Workplace Computers, both computers are displayed, but when I try to open the main computer it says: "\\Supercomputer is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource, Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission." "Logon Failure The user has not been granted the requested logon type for this computer" I can't view any of the main computers shared folders using the second computer. But they can see each other and can ping each other. I'm using a Linksys WRT110 router. Main computer is connected by Ethernet cable. Second computer is connected wireless. Both firewalls are disabled. Someone please help. I'm new to messing with a network but I do have mid-level computer skills. I've searched and searched and found nothing to work yet. Any help is greatly appreciated. Joel1 person got this answerI do too

Run the Network Setup Wizard on Supercomputer. If that doesn't fix the problem: 1. Download and install the Windows 2003 Server Resource Kit Tools . 2. Click Start > All Programs > Windows Resource Kit Tools > Command Shell . 3. Type these lines at the command prompt, exactly as shown: net user guest /active:yes ntrights +r SeNetworkLogonRight -u Guest ntrights -r SeDenyNetworkLogonRight -u Guest

You're welcome, Joel! I'm glad that it worked for you. Feel free to post it anywhere. The steps that I gave are for Windows XP Home Edition. If a computer has Windows XP Professional, you can fix it without downloading and installing any software: 1. Click Start > Run , type secpol.msc in the box, and click OK . 2. Click Local Policies . 3. Click User Rights Assignment . 4. Click Access this computer from the network and make sure that the Everyone group is included. 5. Click Deny access to this computer from the network " and make sure that the Everyone group is NOT included.

Hello,I'm havingthe sameproblem with the same error (well computer name is different). But none the less the same problem. My desktop and laptop are however running XP pro andI have updated windows to SP3. I have also turned off all the firewalls I could find. This is also affecting my printing abilities from the laptop. One thing I also found out is thatI can access the desk top from the laptop if I password protect the desktop usersID. I dont usually, nor do I want to password protect my users on my desktop. I did follow the instructions provided above in the poston 10/19/09 and all the settings were correct. What else can I do?? please help.Cam
