I got a virus. on my dell laptop. the operating system is windows XP. The virus or malware looks like a Microsoft antivirus warning. NewSoftspot.net or New-Soft.net virus
This virus has taken over my computer and blocked my internet access. I can access the internet from firefox only. It will not allow me to access anything that lets me delete program files, restore the computer or do anything that might allow me to fix the problem. I tried the Hijack program and it won't save the file or even let me read it. It closes it and says I can't access it. What can I do? Norton antivirus will not locate the intruder! it stops any new antivirus software from operating. A Google search results in tech notes stating to remove the files: Delete New-soft.net related files and folders: %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\[random] %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\[random]\[random]sysguard.exe Remove New-soft.net registry keys: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AvScan HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Download “RunInvalidSignatures” = “1″ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings “ProxyOverride” = “” HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings “ProxyServer” = “http=127.0.0.1:5555″ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Associations “LowRiskFileTypes” = “.exe” HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Attachments “SaveZoneInformation” = “1″ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run “[random]“ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run “[random]“ I have done this and the virus is still there! Please Help! 1 person needs an answerI do too

Your system is infected with a rogue security program. It is called "rogue" because it pretends to be A Good Guy but is really Evil. Do not pay them! Look for removal steps here Bleeping Computer removal how-to's - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum55.html or here - Malwarebytes malware removal guides - http://tinyurl.com/5xrpft Malwarebytes' Anti-malware (MBAM) or SuperAntiSpyware will often do the job. Both have free versions and you do not need to purchase these programs. These may work for you and all may be well. However, in many cases the computer will also be infected with other trojans and protected by a rootkit. These machines are extremely difficult to clean. If your machine is one of these cases, either get guided help at one of the specialty forums listed at the link below OR take your machine to a local computer professional OR back up your data and do a clean install of Windows. It is your choice. I don't recommend using BigComputerStore/GeekSquad types of places. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#HJT-linksMS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Hi i got a Virus saying it was pretending it was from Microsoft, it had the Vista logo and wanted me to pay. It basically turned off my AVG and my Vista firewall and would not let me go on the internet. I tried everything and nothing worked. So i wiped my hard drive clean to do a fresh install, but it would not let me install so i put a new hard drive in and still it would not let me install windows. I am not a novice at fixing Pc's or building them and i just could not get rid of it. But it did let me put Unbunto on my laptop but i did not want that. These people are evil thieves and i do hope they get what is coming to them. I have just ordered a new laptop, the other one was just 14 mths old. Cya xx
