I don't want windows to remember each folders view settings
How can i disable "Remember each folder's view settings" The option is gone!!! I can't work like this... windows changes view somehow automatically "guessing" on folder's content and remembers its state even if i don't want it to. I will give you an example: I have a folder with textures (images) in d:\tex\ folder, when i browse the content in windows explorer i switch the view to big icons so i can actually see the images, now it comes to worse, when i open a material browser in 3dsmax (biggy and complex software) and browse for the file I found in explorer (edited renamed whatever), the view in open dialog now is in big icons too, but i want it to be in details how i have it set on default and in this case i have to switch again. Oh and another example, in Windows vista when i wanted to browse a big amount of pictures inside of folders i didn't have to switch view for every new opened folder to the thumbnails view, i just did it once and browsed whatever i wanted in thumbs view, and when i didn't want to browse pictures anymore i just could simply switch it back to details view with just one click. Is there some registry hack for this? Or is this option gone forever?

Not sure I'm seeing the same thing happen here. In fact, mine appears to keep each individualview setting in the few programs I tried just now. I hadn't really changed folder views much yet.Didn't restart Windows to see if they stay that way but I could get, for example, Details in open file dialog while Explorer remained Medium icons. Even closing the program(s) and Explorer and rechecking them.I've noticed in the Organize drop-down, Folder and search options, View tab doesn't seem to allow Apply to Folders or Reset Folders when in a Library folder. I do get thoseavailable aftergoing to the actual locations.I guess it's possible 3D Studio Max isn't able to interface with Explorer 100% since that's what it sounds like to mefrom what you said.

Why did they remove this option? I'm sure there will be a lot of people complaining about this. It's slowing me down as ____, every time i browse files in open dialog thumbs are re-caching since i change files a lot in photoshop. only way around is to use external software to browse files in thumbs view and never change view from details in windows explorer, but again auto switching view to folder's content is just stupid i found some reg hack to "disable folder sniffing" and it seems to work. If someone is interested add this to registry: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\shell] "FolderType"="NotSpecified"
