I don't have the CSC folder.
Hi, I play a game called Left 4 dead 2, suddenly today it started crashing. I started googling and found one of the reasons might be not having access to the C:\Windows\CSC folder. But the thing is, I don't have it. I own a HP Pavilion h8-1214. 64bit

1. By default you have no access to CSC folder (Even as an administrator). 2. Would you specify the crashing? Does computer stuck or reboots with blue screen of death? 3. Are there any traces in Event logs 4. I would suggest you to address (as soon as you have some more information): a. Game vendor forum or/and support b. HP forum or/and support Regards Milos

The C:\Windows\CSC folder is used for offline files cache, and is hidden if I remember correctly. I see no reason why your game should use this folder..

Milos: I open the game, intro, then a loading screen and sometimes it just crashes right when it finishes loading or sometimes about 20 seconds when it finishes loading. It just says "left4dead2.exe stopped working" then windows starts looking for a solution but it says it will provide me one, when they have one. Where would I see those event logs? GonWild: I know I find it odd too, but I've read in several forums that's a possible fix. I unhid all the folders and unchecked system protected operating files in folder options, and it still isn't there. .... I went to Control panel -> Sync Center and clicked on Manage Offline Files and it doesn't open anything, like a broken link. Also, I could ask in game forum, HP... But this is a Windows problem, I want to know why I don't have the CSC folder. Thanks for the attention. Greetings, Oscar.

see if you can get a hold of the logs in the event viewer, that will give us some more information as to why your game is crashing. if your running windows 7 you can find the event viewer logs by right clicking on "my computer" and selecting manage. from there please expand the following.. event viewer > windows logs > and take a look at the "system" log along with the "application" log... if your running vista you can find the event viewer by clicking on your start button, than selecting control panel, click on "System and Maintenance", choose "Administrative Tools", and double click event viewer see if you can find anything relating to the game and toss up some screenshots so we can take a look at it. what operating system are you running? TabacO, that looks like corrupt program files in the games install folder. also, are you playing l4d through the steam client? or did you actually purchase/download the actual game and have installed it through the install media? before you try anything serious i would recommend trying a re-install first, but im not sure how you play, if you play all local or online play, i would assume the un-install and re-install would erase your saved game data if you played local though, not sure if thats a deal breaker for you or not. also, try right clicking on the games icon launcher and choose "run as admin", ive seen that fix this issues like this before. im not sure what you may have seen online that made you think it was your csc folder? maybe you could send me a link or something? as "GonWild" stated above, the CSC folder in windows is used for client side caching (csc), its a means for offline file sharing, and by default, you do not have access to this folder. however, there should be no reason that L4D is touching that folder, or any game for that matter. Well, lets leave the game aside for one moment. I'm supossed to have a CSC folder, In my other W764bit installation I have it, but I don't in this one. Basically to enable offline files you should go to Control Panel -> Sync Center, and click on "Manage Offline Files", but when I do that nothing happens. I tried to enable it throught the registry, I don't remember the key location at them moment, but for example: this is the key I have to go: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/lalala/Parameters and I have no parameters key. Thanks for the attention, Oscar.

oscar, by default the csc folder is hidden, if you have never deleted it than you may have to turn of your "hidden folders" setting, which is on by default, so it hides it. in windows 7 navagate to the following location to turn on hidden folders, control panel > appearance and personalization > folder options. once there click on the view tab and check the box labeled "show hidden files, folders, and drives". see if that does anything for you. regards,Ross Kotter Systems Administrator Microsoft Certified **************************************************************** Was This Post Helpful?
