It simply does not make sense for users in the USA to have to install third party programs so that Outlook Express email will be correctly spell checked. We speak English! Microsoft is in America. We do not speak French and Microsoft knows this. This is something that should be addressed and fixed by the Microsoft programmers. Furthermore, it would have been more logical to change the OE dictionary and spell check to Spanish if it had to be changed at all. At least, there is a very large population of Spanish speaking people here.I think I'll go back to one of the email clients I used to use.Steph http://www.alldressforms.com/

I understand that you are upset but whinging about it will not help. Outlook Express never had native spell-checking ability. It was always provided by MS Office or by third-party spell-checking programs. In addition, OE is now obsolete. It was replaced by Windows Mail in Vista and Windows Mail has been replaced by Windows Live Mail or third-party email programs in Windows 7, which has no native email client included. Since XP is an obsolete operating system, it is extremely unlikely that Microsoft programmers will be doing anything to Outlook Express ever again.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

This is the result of numerous law suits designed to break Microsoft and their products so it is harder for users. This is what happens when Americans sit around on their thumbs while the courts destroy our nation, break up our businesses, and devistate our families. If you don't like it, do something. Write your representatives, visit their offices, VOTE them out of office, focus on impeachment for activist judges who think they are in charge of our lives.

Typical Microsoft attitude - take a perfectly good product, call it obsolete, replace it with junk, and then blame the customer for objecting. The only reason you guys get away with this is because you're a monopoly. No one would buy your software if there was any real alternative.

But there are other alternatives, excellent ones. I think the MS platform is the best one for heavy-duty gaming but if you are mostly using your computer to surf, do email, and use an office suite there is no reason not to use one of the free Linux distros if you are unsatisfied with Windows. Ubuntu is very user-friendly. Or if you don't mind buying new hardware, OS X is superb. Most end users don't care what operating system they are using - in fact, many of my new clients don't even know what they've got!. They just want to get their email, go online, and maybe work with their pictures. And even if you want to keep the operating system Windows, there are far better programs than Outlook Express. Thunderbird is free and very good, for instance. Take the time you spend whinging and spend it on learning something new and satisfying to yourself instead. Note: I do not work for Microsoft and therefore do not speak for them. Linux user since pre-2000 until 2007 when I switched my main systems to OS X. Still run Linux in a vm. Support Win9x/ME/XP/Vista/Win7/Server/Linux/OS X. Since the OP's question has been answered, this is the end of the thread for me. Hope you find something you like for your computing work. When office2007 changed oe, all microsoft had to do was offer the old english platform as a download with directions how to install it. A very simple fix for the ms brainiacs. I am a small business owner and the clients I need, to be available to service (virtual service), of 6000 business clients 99% still require xp, from home depo to other national brands. Most didnt change to vista and were glad about it. They are just now starting to switch to 7. This isnt complaining its just facts. As a small business owner not making alot of cash, it would be a lot more desirable to download a quick fix and have a better mood towards using ms in the future, than to have to go to another mail client, swap everything over, and not feel as good about ms products. Is there any place to get the old english platform with directions how to install it (besides a install cd) or is office 2010 or another mail client software my only options?

Why don't you just download a spell check for OE? I have never used an Office program and have always depended on a third party spell check and they work just fine? Also note that all production of OE ceased in June, 2006, so MS doesn't really give a rats rear end about it.You no longer have spell checking capabilities in some languages in Outlook Express 6.0 after you install the 2007 Microsoft Office system:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932974Outlook Express cannot use the MS Word spell check in Office 2007.
