I cant connect two laptops with IEEE1394
I did it in XP easily but in Vista SP1 it didn't work. There was no network adapter for IEEE1394 in Vista. I think without that its impossible to connect computers. I have two Dell Inspiron 6400 laptops with Ricoh IEEE1394 host controller on them. Any idea why it doesn't work?[EDIT] OK, I just read Vista doesn't support firewire networking. So why Windows Help says you can do it? System Novice

Hi, Thank you for posting. Please understand that "networking over 1394 " is no longer supported since Windows Vista: Discontinued Support for IP over 1394 Updated: December 8, 2004 In future versions of the Windows operating systems, Microsoft plans to discontinue support for IP over 1394 (that is, TCP/IP over IEEE 1394). Currently, this capability is supported in Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows Me. Microsoft has not identified any customer dependency on this capability. If you are an IHV or OEM who has a business dependency on this capability, please provide feedback to netdd@microsoft.com. http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/archive/IP_1394.mspx I have also noticed this document in "Windows Help and How-to", I thought you might also noticed this. But it also means that Windows Vista dont support IEEE 1394 networking: Set up a network using IEEE 1394 (also known as FireWire, i.Link, or Lynx) http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/222ab548-32a8-4303-83a3-8d4c45ae0b8d1033.mspx Thanks.
