The recommended button on the firewall dialog box is gray and will not accept an entry.

I don't understand what "Backup the key and then delete the WindowsFirewall branch" means. I am in the registry editor, but i'm stuck.

At Ramesh's site, click on the link on the word "Backup" and it will take you to a page explaining how to back up the key.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Unfortunately, I read that and I still don't understand. I can choose either "DomainProfile" or "StandardProfile" and the directions were not clear as to exactly what file to "export." I don't understand what a WindowsFirewall branch is, either; i.e. what do I delete? All of these terms may as well be Greek to me...

If you don't understand the directions, you should not be working in the registry. Making a mistake in the registry can render Windows unbootable. I'm not comfortable going further with you in this thread because my first care is to do no harm. Perhaps someone else will pop in and help you. Or you can take your computer to a competent local professional (not a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place). I'm sorry I was unable to assist you.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
