I cannot ping from client to print server or vice versa
Hi all, I have an ongoing issue with windows 7 that I need to resolve. I have a windows7 pro 64bit desktop. User reports every so often that he can no longer print and sure enough, all printers are offline. If I ping the print server from the client pc I get request timed out. If I ping the client from the server I also get request timed out. if I run \\printserver from the client I get the error 0x80070035 Client CAN ping every other server ? It's as if the server thinks the client is powered off and vice versa. I noticed on client that firewall gave an error, I checked the service and it was disabled. I re-enabled the firewall service but chose to turn off firewall, still no ping. The only temp solution so far is if I restart the print server, when I do this everything works ok for a while? Anyone ever seen this type of behaviour before ? Ray..

I have seen the behavior with a faulty switch before, don't know if it will be useful information to you in anyway but I thought id drop this here for anyone else in the future.

Hiya, thx for the reply. This morning everything is now ok ? Server was NOT rebooted and client reboot yesterday did not fix it. I too think this is a network issue. I have changed the client to a different switch to see if problem retunrs again. If it does return I will update the drivers on the NIC card of the laptop. Thx, Ray..

Yes, think you should try these: - Connect the client PC to different switch port or different switch - Change the network cable - Update the network adapter driver and also print server driver if there is newer version. Good luck. dawooddoe Home Network & Wireless Network Help

I think it's firewall setting. we had similar problem but we fixed the problem with turning firewall on server and workstation. once both sees fine, you can disable firewall. try it and let me know. www.zon-ze.com

Hi, When issue occurs, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Temporary disable the security applications and Windows Firewall and test the issue again. 2. Check if your clients can ping each other successfully. 3. Ensure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on both sides. 4. Also, double check the connections between your clients and the printer server. Hope this helps. Jeremy Wu TechNet Community Support
