I cannot get Java apps to work in any browser
I have just recently borrowed a nice computer from work. It is an ASUS G73J with Windows 7 64 bit. I am able to run java apps outside of my browsers, such as Minecraft. However, when I try to open a Java app in any browser, like IE, Firefox, Chrome or Opera, it either comes up with a gray screen or in IE's case, it doesn't show up at all. I have re-installed Java about 30 times now, I have re-installed all of my browsers, I have installed old Java versions, I have cleared registries, I have done system restores, I have ensured all java plug-ins are installed correctly and running, and I have gone insane. Here are some weird things that are also happening: When I try to edit my Java settings via the control panel, they seem to not save and revert to what they were, even if I hit Apply. When I uninstall Java and try to install from the main site, it prompts me to re-install Java, which is not true since I do not have it. If I click yes, it says I cannot do so, as it does not exist on the computer. I have absolutely no idea why it won't work as I can download java apps to my hard drive and run them just fine. But if a java file is embedded on a web page, it does not work. Please help, I got this computer with the hopes that it would help me work better instead of taking a step back. Thank you very much in advance.

Make sure your Java is detectable from Web Broswer - http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1 and is enabled http://javatester.org/enabled.html"Everything we do is dictated by motive."

I've tested those numerous times, and Java is not detectable from any of my browsers, and although in their respective lists they are enabled, the test above fails. That's why this is so confusing. The computer in many instances thinks Java is not active, yet in many others thinks it is. I just don't know what to do.

Hello, Based on your description, this issue occurs on Java add-in on many browsers. As we are not the best support resource for Java platform issue, it is recommended to find further support in Sun support (delivered by Oracle): Java: Support Options http://www.java.com/en/download/support.jsp I would like to provide some suggestions based on my personal experience: 1. Just for Microsoft Internet Explorer, please check the add-ons under Internet Explorer – Tools – Internet Options – Programs – Manage Add-ons, if the Java-related add-ons are correctly enabled. 2. If Step 1 doesn’t fix the issue, please use the instruction from Java’s official website to remove the older versions of Java platforms: Why should I remove older versions of Java from my system? http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml 3. There are also some possibilities that 3rd party security software (anti-virus or malware removal) preventing the Java platform from running correctly. Please disable them if there is any and test it again. Hope it helps and we are always glad to help you from Microsoft side. Thanks!
