I cannot connect to the internet with my broadband cable modem Windows 7 32bit beta
Having downloaded and installed my Windows 7 beta everything works Aok except that I cannot connect to the internet with my Broadband Cable Modem.I have tried all the obvious things like plugging/unplugging the modem but no dice and tried to connect by Lan with the box ticked never dial a number but I still cannot get a connection. With Windows XP Pro it isn't a problem, even with a clean install with the Lan its simply plug and go but that does not happen with Windows 7 it just won't connect. The one thing that I have not done is to enter my user name and password (both of which I have forgotten) so I phoned my ISP and according to what I was told on the phone with a Lan I don't need one, unless I missunderstood what they were saying?I have never entered my username and password with Windows XP so what they were saying makes sense, so I think I must have missed a trick or forgot to tick a box somewhere. Please treat me as a Newbie on how to connect to the net with Windows 7 as although I have always managed to fix any faults with Windows XP this problem has me foxed. Please would someone be kind enough to talk me through the process of connecting to the net in simple non technical language that a Windows 7 nembie like me can easily understand. Many Thanks in advance for your help.

HiOpen device manager and check whether your network adapter is installed.I think it probaly is not installed and this is why you cannot connect to internet. You can use network adapter driver for vista, but you must run driver setup in vista compatibility modeYou need 32 bit vista or xp driver for w7 32 bit and 64 bit vista or xpdriver for w7 64bitAfter driver is installed you will be able to connect to intternet

LAN: local area network, you don't need a user name and passwordWAN: wide area network, aka internet. That's what you pay the ISP for and you need a username and password for modem connections. Shouldn't though for broadbandCheck the status in Network connections (Start>control panel>network connections): does it say "limited connectivity"? cyanna

Hi and thanks for replyingI haven't had time to check that yet as I have a swapable HD and am in the process of downloading the 64bit version of Win 7 using Win XP pro, in case I upgrade later, so dare not swap the HD back in case I lose it all and have to start over. But if this network adapter (not quite sure what that is) is missing, please can you tell me where I can find it and how to install it, as with Windows 7, I am a total newbie. Is a network adaptor a file you can download from somewhere or is it something that should be on the system disk that came with the motherboard?I am going to need some detailed instructions for this one if you don't mind. Many Thanks for your Help.

Hello computertutorIf you have problems with w7 32 bit, I really doubt w7 64bit will solve them, it even may make things worseI suggest you to ask some friend that have some computer skills to install NIC driver for you.He can use driver for vista 32bit if there is not driver for windows 7 yet

Or click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Information. Look for System model in the right pane, that will tell us the exact model of your motherboard. Post with the details for the CPU as well (a few lines further down the list) cyanna

Drivers download page. However, to be blunt: good luck to you, getting a lot of the hardware to work. For various reasons, nVidia decided that the 'line in the sand' for Vista support (and, this includes Win7 now) would be drawn between the nForce3 and nForce4 chipsets. Many of the OS subsystems in Vista (networking and sound being two very notable ones) are very different in NT6 (Vista/Win7) than they were in NT5 (2k/XP.) As such, 2k/XP drivers won't work, even if installed in compatibility mode. And, since nForce drivers are 'complete platform packages' (rather than individual drivers), you can't try to install them one-by-one.However, you're always welcome to try. :)IMHO, though, that is not the machine to be trying to run Win7 on, even as a test box. Unfortunately, it's too old - and, blame nVidia, not MS, for that.(also, blame Creative - when they cornered the sound market, nVidia jettisioned their sound division. They no longer have anyone who can write drivers for the Soundstorm chip.) And, I know this quite well - this was a major factor in my selling of my old PC (Shuttle SN41G2, nForce2 Ultra400), as it could not (no way, no how) run Vista (or later), due to the lack of sound & network drivers.HTH, Chris[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Hello computertutor, The easiest way to fix this is to install a network adapter card that you know will work. I installed windows7 on an even older nVidia based motherboard and it works fine. I installed a D-Link DFE - 530TX I had laying around after I could not get the motherboard based adapter to work.

I have the same network card (and I was running win7 64-bit). I have heard people not having any problems at all, then I've heard people having the same problems you and I are having. First, I would look into your bios. If you have an old one, I would suggest you update it a bit. Thas was one of the things i was having problems with..second, Contact lindachen@realtek.com and ask her for the win7 drivers for your realtek network card. I don't know if they are beta or just pre-release but I can't find em on the internet anyplace but she emailed them to me. She does have the win7 drivers for both 32 and 64 bit. She doesn't answer a lot of email, but I think if you beg and plead she will get to you faster...also check your spam folder for her reply as she is writing to you from China (taiwan I think) and that's where her email ended up the first time on my account at gmail. Honestly I haven't installed them yet to test this but I think having someone from the manufacturer email me directly with some drivers that say win7... on them is a good step in the right direction. I'll try to repost with the results.
