I can't open files I created!
I have had this problem with several different file formats so far (.docx, .jpg, etc) so it is not related to any specific program. This started happening after I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate.PROBLEM: Sometimes, files I create/copy/scan I am suddenly not allowed to open. For example, I just scanned a document and saved it as a .jpg. When I double click it to view it, I get an error message which reads: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."When I look at the permissions for the file, everything is wide open (except "Special permissions") and it is NOT read-only.This happens quite often in my own account (no admin privileges) but happens even more when accessing items I copied to the "Public" folder.Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

First, please let us know if other account have the same issue, and when the issue began to occur. I suggest you to test your issue in an new account with administrator privilege first. If you don't have one, you can contact the computer adminstrator to give you the privilege. In addition, you can try the following steps to ope those files in the new account.1. Right-click a file, and then click "Open With". If "Open With" is not available, click Open. 2. Click 'Select the program from a list' and click OK.3. If the program is not on the list, click Browse to locate the program you want. Click Open.4. Select the “Always use this program to open these files” check box. Now, can you open the files properly? If not, it's better to reset the permission for your computer. You can try the subinacl.msi file from the following link and save the installation patch onto the Desktop: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe-4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en#AffinityDownloads 2. Please go to the Desktop and double click the downloaded file.3. Please select the C:\Windows\System32 folder as the Destination Folder during the installation. Later we will use this tool to reset the permission settings on the current machine. 4. Click the "Start" Button, in the "Start Search" bar, type: "notepad" (without quotes) and press Enter. 5. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window: @echo offsubinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=fsubinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=fsubinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=fsubinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=fsubinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=fsubinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=fsubinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=fsubinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f @Echo =========================@Echo Finished. @Echo =========================@pause6. After pasting the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Choose "Save" when you are prompted to save the file. Type "reset.bat" as the file name and choose "Desktop" from the left panel as the save location.7. Refer to the Desktop and right click the reset.bat file, then choose "Run as administrator." 8. You will see a DOS-like window processing.NOTE: It may take several minutes, please be patient. When it is finished, you will be prompted with the message: "Finished, press any key to continue". Then you can test your issue again.Good luck! John
