I can't get system restore to work all the way. I keep getting error messages.
I can't get system restore to work all the way. I'm trying to fix various issues on my computer, but I really need system restore for this. I keep getting error messages. The first error message said this: "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: System Restore failed while mounting the registry from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x800703f1)" A different error message was saying that Restore didn't work because it failed to extract this file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0\0x0407.ini So, I booted into safe mode and I deleted every single Adobe Premiere Elements file on my pc. Then I tried to do system restore again, this time from safe mode - but restore still didn't work. I keep getting the same error message. I have tried all the other restore points, with no success. I really do feel like I could solve all my problems, if I could get System Restore to work correctly. Can you help me do that? Also, if this info helps - last week I installed a new internal 2TB Hard Drive onto my computer - it's the "K:" drive. A few days later I was getting ready to create a regular Restore Point, like I do every few weeks. But that's when I noticed that "System Restore" now shows two drives "C:" and "K:", and "K:" was greyed-out. So, I clicked the "Configure" button to configure the "K:" drive. So, I wasn't sure that if the act of configuring the "K:" drive might have caused this whole - not being able to Restore issue. Someone told me to change "Volume Shadow Copy Service" to Automatic (it used to be set as Manual) - from Services. Well, after that, I went into Safe mode - ran my virus & malware scanner, then ran ccleaner to clean things up. That's when I tried to use system restore from safe mode again. But this time, as my pc was restarting, i got the BSOD with this STOP ERROR: Technical Information STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8008B38B30, 0xFFFFFA8008B38E10, 0xFFFFF800023DEF40) So, I tried it once more and I got another BSOD, with a slightly different error code: STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8008877B30, 0xFFFFFA8008877E10, 0xFFFFF80002396F40) Please help me.

Just a though.t Have you ran any hardware diagnostics on the hard drive or chkdsk on all drives? This might help. See if chkdsk finds any errors or a bad sectors.Chris Medina

Run Malwarebytes to insure you haven't picked up some malware. Jerry The very first thing I did, was check for viruses & malware. So, I did scans with the following programs (in both Normal mode & Safe mode); Norton 360 Premier Edition Ad-Aware Malwarebytes Spybot S&D All results were clean. I also did the "/SFC SCANNOW" and I ran the CHKDSK Error - all of that was fine also. So...... ??

Hi, Have you tried to use the Last Known Good Configuration. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Using-Last-Known-Good-Configuration This will replace the currentcontrolset to use controlset001. If the issue still persists, I suggest you to perform an In-place upgrade installation. Based on my experience, this may be the easiest way to resolve your issue. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi, Have you tried to use the Last Known Good Configuration. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Using-Last-Known-Good-Configuration This will replace the currentcontrolset to use controlset001. I remembered that I had made a "System Repair Disc" a few months ago - so I popped that in, and booted from that disc to see if it would fix something. But for some reason, it didn't quite recognize the disc. It was saying that there wasn't anything on the disc. So while I was still in the menu, that offers various repair options, like load from system image or do a system restore - I selected the option to do a system restore point. I picked the oldest point available, and clicked ok. But it didn't work, it gave me this error message: "System Restore failed while copying the registry from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x80070570)" No matter what I try, my computer will not let me do any kind of system restore. And I've been thinking that something in my registry has been the culprit all this time, and now I know that's true (because thats what this most recent error message said, that the problem is somewhere in the registry). I'm telling you, there is some type of deep corrupted file in the registry, that is causing all of this. I need some kind of registry expert, who fully understands the intricacies of the Windows 7 registry.

And not from me doing it wrong, I've used System Repair discs many many times over the past few years, and I've never had a problem before. And, like I said, I don't think there is anything wrong with the system repair disc. I know that there is some kind of "Gremlin" in my registry, that won't let me access the data from my system repair disc - and I think that same Gremlin is not letting my computer do any kind of system restore. This problem of mine is going to take some serious thinking outside the box, by a very smart expert.

Hi, All right, You need to boot the computer from System repair disk rather than use Windows RE. Then use System Image Recovery to recover your computer using a system image you created during a backup. If I wanted to create a System Image, it would require 900 GB of space, so I never made a System Image disc - I only made a System Repair disc. And, like I said, something on my computer is not letting me access or use the System Repair disc - which I know that there is nothing wrong with that repair disc, it's something on the computer not letting it access the disc.

Backup your data to a reliable external drive (or copy) and wipe the hard drive and perform a clean install of Windows 7. You'll be finished long before you solve this problem. Use one anti-virus and malware bytes set in non-realtime mode for manual scanning. Too many anti-malware apps at once is not good.

System Restore requires ample amount of free disk space in order to complete the restoration process. Does your C: have enough free space? Try to run the Disk Clean Up wizard first, delete all the Temporary files. Also delete all unnecessary files and folder on the volume. Make sure you have a sufficient amount of free disk space and try to restore the system again. It mentions the word "registry" in the error message maybe because the disk space comes to a point of saturation when it's trying to restore the registry. Try the method I mentioned and let us know if it helps! Kunal D Mehta - a Windows Server Enthusiast.
