I can't get Virtual Machine to connect to Internet
I have been using my laptop with no problems at home which has Windows 7 installed on the host and it has a virtual machine which is also Windows 7. But as I type this message, at my county's public library, I cannot getthe VM to connect to the Internet. Regardless if my host OS is connected to the library's wireless router as Home, Work or Public setting, the VM gives me the following message in the Windows Network Diagnostic window:"Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configurationPlease note, that I am trying to connect my VM on a Wireless router. Then, when I click on repair as administrator, I get the following message:If you are connected to a hotspot or domain network, contact your network administrator. Then it suggests I unplug/plug the router. Any suggestions, other then for me to find the county's network administrator?

Sorry, but the bridging mode does not work with wireless Adapters. You may try NAT at virtual machine network settings (be sure, not inside the virtuak machine).

Thanks for the reply! I have tried NAT with no success. I tried to set NAT for the VM's network adaptor, but when I was in the VMit didn't even recongize that there was a connection. Is there something I should be aware of when setting NAT?

A correction from my last post, is that when I set the VM network adaptor to NAT from the host OS, I get the following in Windows Network Diagnostic window: Windows Network Diagnostics Publisher details Issues found Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server) Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server) The device or resource is not responding to requests. Detected Contact your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) Completed Also, the only network adaptor that currently works, is my 'Intel Wireless WIFI Link'. All others (Internal Network, NAT, Ethernet) don't seem to work.

Hi, May I know which application you are using for the virtual machine? For this issue, we may need to ensure that the virtual network adapter works fine and the network settings of the virtual machine are proper. Please also let us know the detail information, such as your configuration. At this time, please check the following on the virtual machine: 1. Ping the router with IP Address and see if it works. 2. Check if you can access the routers management site from the virtual machine. Meanwhile, please run ipconfig /all in an elevated command prompt and post the result to this thread for our further research. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT

I have been informed that when you use NAT on a VM, the DNS server address should be set to: 192.168.131.254When I set this value in the 'Internet Protocol Version 4 Properties' panel, I am able to access the internet fine. For more info: http://www.tipandtrick.net/2008/fix-virtual-pc-2007-shared-networking-nat-internet-not-working-in-windows-server-2003-2008-and-vista-guest-os/Thanks for the replies.
